SHAKTI: Measurement & Testing

For a high-volume automotive manufacturer with 100 machines, inspection laboratory is the "nerve center" for both Product Validation and Process Control. Under IATF 16949:2016 (which builds upon ISO 9001:2015), Shakti Enterprises lab has the right tools and meets specific "Internal Laboratory" requirements (Clause 7.1.5.3.1), including defined scope, technical procedures, and personnel competency.

1. Dimensional & Geometric Measurement

CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine)

Essential for First Article Inspections (FAI) and PPAP. For 100 machines, at least two (Computer Numerical Control) CNC-driven (Coordinate Measuring Machines)CMMs are recommended to avoid bottlenecks.

Vision / Optical Inspection System

Non-contact measurement for small, delicate, or flexible plastic parts that might deform under a CMM probe.

3D Laser Scanner

Rapidly compares molded parts against CAD data (color-mapping) to detect warping—a common issue in large automotive panels.

Contour Projector (Optical Comparator):

For quick 2D profile checks of clips, fasteners, and small features.

Precision Hand Tools

Digital calipers, micrometers (outside/inside), height gauges, and bore gauges (all must be calibrated and part of an MSA/Gage R&R study).

2. Material & Physical Testing (Raw Material Validation)

Melt Flow Indexer (MFI/MFR)

To verify resin consistency between batches and ensure regrind levels aren't degrading the polymer.

Moisture Analyzer (Karl Fischer or Loss-on-Drying)

Critical for hygroscopic materials like Nylon (PA6/PA66) or Polycarbonate. Excess moisture causes splay and structural brittleness.

Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC)

Often required by OEMs to check the crystallinity of the plastic or to identify "contamination" in the resin supply.

Densimeter / Specific Gravity Tester

A quick check to ensure the material is correct and the packing of the mold is consistent.

3. Performance & Functional Testing (Product-Specific)

Universal Testing Machine (UTM)

For tensile, compression, and "pull-out" force testing on assembly clips or welded joints.

Environmental / Climate Chambers

To perform "Heat Ageing" or "Thermal Cycling" tests (e.g., -40°C to +120°C).

Colorimeter / Spectrophotometer

Essential for interior and exterior "Class A" parts to ensure "Delta E" color consistency across different batches and light sources (D65/TL84).

Gloss Meter

To measure surface finish against OEM standards (e.g., VDA or SAE).

4. Advanced “Zero-Defect” Tools

Custom Inspection Fixtures (Gauges)

Go/No-Go gauges for high-frequency floor checks.

AI Vision Systems

Inline cameras on the conveyor to detect short-shots, flash, or black specks in real-time.

Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge

For non-destructive wall thickness checks on hollow or large parts.

5. Laboratory Compliance (IATF 7.1.5.3.1)

Calibration Management

A system (like GAGEtrak) to track calibration dates. All master’s must be traceable to NIST or equivalent national standards.

MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)

Evidence of Gage R&R (Repeatability & Reproducibility) for every type of measurement system in the lab.

External Lab Accreditation

Any external lab used for calibration must be ISO/IEC 17025 accredited.

The Shakti Group remains committed to excellence, reliability, and customer satisfaction through technologically advanced manufacturing, a robust pan-India presence with dedicated work groups.
